Most venemous snakes in Sri Lanka

The following venomous snakes are responsible for a high incidence of snakebite morbidity and mortality in Sri Lanka:



Cobra  (Sinhala -Naya, Tamil-நாகப்பாம்பு)




                  Common krait (Sinhala - Magamaruwa, Thel Karawala, Tamil-கட்டு விரியன்)


Sri Lanka krait (Sinhala -  Mudu Karawala, Tamil-விரியன்)



Russells's viper (Sinhala - Thith Polanga, Tamil-கண்ணாடி விரியன்)



Saw scale viper (Sinahal - weli Polanga, Tamil-சுருட்டைவிரியன்)



Hump nose viper (Sinhala- Polon Thelissa or Kunakatuwa)



Green pit viper (Sinahal - Pala Polanga)

and approximately the 13 species of marine snakes which inhabit the coastal waters and estuaries around the island.
